The process addresses the potential environment, economic, social, heritage and health effects of the project. The process provides opportunities for public comments about potential effects. The Blackwater Gold Project is currently in the Analysis stage in both the Federal and Provincial Environmental Assessment process.
The Blackwater Project requires an Environmental Assessment Certificate (EAC) under the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Act (BCEAA) and a Decision Statement from Canada's Minister of the Environment, as set out in the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act 2012 (CEAA 2012).
The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency and the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office have agreed to coordinate the Federal and Provincial Assessment (EA) to the extent possible pursuant to the Canada / British Columbia Agreement for EA Cooperation.
Under the coordinated Federal and Provincial Environment Process, New Gold must prepare a single Environmental Assessment Application containing information required to fulfill both Provincial and Federal requirements. The Provincial and Federal processes are concurrent:
