Medio Ambiente

El cuidado del medio ambiente es una prioridad para Minera San Xavier. Nuestros esfuerzos en materia ambiental están dirigidos a prevenir la contaminación, cumplir la normatividad vigente y mejorar continuamente el desempeño. Trabajamos para reducir el impacto ambiental que la propia actividad minera implica cumpliendo con todas las normas y legislación vigentes. Desde 2008, Minera San Xavier cuenta con la certificación ISO14001:2004 para su Sistema de Administración Ambiental.

Nuestra responsabilidad con el medio ambiente incluye la protección de la flora y la fauna locales. Se han rescatado y reubicado más de 23,000 cactáceas y se cuenta además con un vivero para la producción de plantas de la región que serán utilizadas en el proceso de restauración final del sitio. En el vivero se producen también plantas que son utilizadas para actividades de reforestación en el Municipio de Cerro de San Pedro.

Monitoreo Ambiental

Minera San Xavier cuenta con un programa de monitoreo ambiental con el objetivo de vigilar y dar seguimiento a nuestro desempeño ambiental y de esta manera corregir oportunamente cualquier irregularidad. La información obtenida a través del programa de monitoreo ambiental nos permite prevenir impactos no deseados, y al mismo tiempo mostrar el cumplimiento de la normatividad y legislación referente a la protección del medio ambiente.

El Programa de Monitoreo Ambiental considera los siguientes aspectos ambientales:

  • Calidad de aire: cinco estaciones de monitoreo
  • Agua subterránea: siete pozos de monitoreo
  • Agua superficial: cinco bordos de almacenamiento y siete pozos sub-superficiales
  • Suelo y sedimento: cien puntos distribuidos en la microcuenca
  • Emisiones a la atmósfera: planta y laboratorio
  • Flora y Fauna: 19 áreas de conservación
  • Clima: dos estaciones meteorológicas
