Mine Technician – Surveyor

LOCATION:

New Afton Mine, located 10km west of Kamloops, BC.

POSITION SCOPE:

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, we have an exciting opportunity for a Mine Technician Surveyor to join New Afton Mine.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The key responsibilities of this role are surface and underground surveying including, but not limited to:

  • Establishing, checking, adjusting and maintaining geodetic and local survey control networks;
  • Setting out reference points, lines, areas and design criteria;
  • Measuring asset and topographic features;
  • Guiding equipment to positional and alignment requirements;
  • Establishing and maintaining automated and manual topographic and infrastructure monitoring programs;
  • Performing and processing site photogrammetry utilizing UAV technology;
  • Computation of 2D and 3D geometries for positional and volume reconciliation;
  • Drafting and maintenance of asset and topographic maps for various departments.

 

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Required:

  • Minimum two-year Mining Technology Diploma or other relevant Engineering Technologist or Technician Diploma;
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License;
  • Minimum of 2 years of underground survey experience or 5 years of total survey experience;
  • TPS and GPS surveying experience;
  • Safety focused;
  • Team oriented;
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills;
  • Strong MS Office skills.

 

Preference will be given to candidates that have:

  • Previous experience working in the mining industry;
  • Experience using Geodetic post processing software e.g. Leica Infinity, LGO/TGO, Trimble Access;
  • Experience using CAD software e.g. Vulcan, AutoCAD, MineCAD, Promine;
  • Experience using GIS apps e.g. QGIS, ArcGIS, MapInfo, Global Mapper;
  • Familiarity with monitoring & change detection suites e.g. GeoMoS, ALERT, EmbankNET;
  • Experience operating commercial UAVs.

 

COMPENSATION:

A competitive salary, performance bonus plan and benefits will be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.

QUALIFICATION PROCESS:

Candidates will be required to complete a comprehensive qualification process, including:

  • Completion of a pre-placement functional screen
  • Provide proof a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
  • Provide confirmation of valid educational requirement(s)
