POSITION SPECIFICATION:

 

 

The Director, Technical Services will be accountable for aspects of management of the mine operations in surface and underground development construction and site service’s activities pertaining to mines. The role will have a continuous part in strategic outlooks and technical advice for short-term and long-term planning at the operating mines and projects as well as in the development and implementation of optimizing mining operations, monitoring systems and procedures with specific attention to increasing efficiencies to ensure production targets are met. The Director, Technical Services should lead by assessing detailed risk with a focus on safety during all projects.

VP, Technical Services

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for overall direction of technical services and engineering at the company’s operations
  • Execute strategy for geology and engineering based on production needs
  • Support mine operations and projects by proving technical expertise in mining operations, mine planning and technical support functions in compliance with legislation requirements
  • Assist with developing strategies for short term and long-term planning including budgeting, forecasting, scheduling and equipment selection
  • Assist in establishing mine resources and reserve reporting standards, including information collection, evaluation process and regulatory compliance
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the mine sites
  • Be pro-active in all aspects of operational safety, efficient utilization of resources, continuous improvement of projects, and encourage teamwork across departments
  • Provide technical expertise and performs project evaluations, analysis and feasibility studies
  • Responsible for identification of potential problems and opportunities and continuous improvement on methodologies and change acceleration
  • Direct and assist with the development of reporting systems for production
  • Provide guidance to operating departments to maximize production efficiency and resources
  • Assist with audits at the operating mines and projects
  • Identify options and implement actions to adopt best practices for operations
  • Advise and guide Mill operation with metallurgical challenges or any improvement that could be made in our process
  • Provide technical support to corporate development for project evaluation and due diligence
  • Support, assist and lead any work in relation with 43-101 documentation
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance with respect to public filing documents and presentations for Board members and New Gold employees as needed
  • Propose, develop and assist in the preparation of presentations for sites, corporate personnel and board members of projects being worked on

 

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • A graduate in Engineering, Geology or a related field and registered as a P. Eng
  • 10+ years of mining experience, 5 of which in a leadership role
  • Specific experience in ore reserve estimation and life-of-mine planning
  • Proven experience in developing long term strategies involving multi-disciplinary issues
  • Broad engineering experience with budgeting, planning, scheduling, equipment selection, geotechnical, ventilation, projects
  • Thorough understanding of the Mining Act and legislation
  • Experience developing risk assessment and hazard operations review processes
  • Strong project management, conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to travel to visit operating and development sites and host communities on a frequent basis, sometimes on short notice
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power point
