Cerro San Pedro - Our Community


Cerro de San Pedro is a semi-abandoned historic mining town located 10 miles east of the San Luís Potosí city and has a municipality in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí. The town started as a mining town for gold and silver and was the founding town of the state. It was a very important mining town during the colonial period. CSP is a small village and is surrounded by mountains above the valley.


In regions of higher altitude, the climate is dry and desert-like. In the central region of the state, the climate may vary from cool to hot, but the lower regions of the state are generally hot and humid. In the capital city of San Luis Potosí the state's annual average temperature is 21 ° C (69.8 ° F), the average minimum temperature is 8.5 ° C (47.3 ° F) which occurs in January and the average high is around 32 ° C (89.6 ° F) is presented in the months of May. Most rainfall occurs during the summer in the months of June to September, the state's average rainfall is about 950 mm per year.

Education, Training and Health Services

Cerro de San Pedro has an Elementary School and Junior High School. These schools offer the community and employees of New Gold the INEA (National Institute for Adult Education) Program.

The High School runs a co-op program where students work for New Gold one day per week while completing their High School Education.

Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí (Independent University of San Luis Potosí) is located in the capital.

We have four health clinics sponsored by New Gold, they are located in Divisadero, Monte Caldera, Portezuelo, and Cerro San Pedro which operates 24 hours. The Cerro San Pedro Clinic runs nutrition and health programs during the year for New Gold employees.


The capital city is home to three local dance companies: the Ballet Provincial de San Luis Potosí, the Grupo de Danza Folklórica, and the Danza Contemporánea. Musical groups include La Banda de Música del Gobierno de San Luis Potosí and the San Luis Potosí Symphony Orchestra. San Luis Potosí also has nine theaters, including open air theaters.

There are 103 public library branches. San Luis Potosí has eighteen museums including a bullfighting museum, the Museum of the Mask, a cultural arts museum, and a museum dedicated to comic book heroes (both Mexican and American).

In the capital, San Luis Potosí, tourists often visits the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen because of its tiled domes and famous altars. The national fair of San Luis Potosí is celebrated in August. Santa María del Río has an ancient aqueduct that forms a waterfall. There is a spa with thermal baths nearby and the area around Santa María del Río is a popular resort area.
