New Afton Mine, located 10km west of Kamloops, BC.

POSITION SCOPE:

The Business Intelligence Developer will be responsible for leading the digital transformation of the Mining department and designing, developing and implementing relational database, data warehousing and business intelligence solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Designing, development, and maintenance of scalable solutions for ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, dashboards, etc. to support analytical and business needs;

     

  • Working with the Mine Operations and Technical Services teams to understand their needs and gather solution requirements;
  • Transform spreadsheet based data storage to relational databases (MS SQL Server);
  • Build and maintain data warehouses using SSIS;
  • Design and develop ETL processes using SSIS. Automate data loads and extracts;
  • Develop reports, dashboards and KPIs (Power BI);
  • Design, develop and publish mobile and tablet based applications for data viewing and entry;
  • Design, develop and publish fully automated reporting solutions;
  • Provide ad-hoc analysis, reporting, and presentation materials to support business decision making;
  • Deliver solutions support – investigate and correct reporting/data anomalies;
  • Provide analytical support for various improvement initiatives;
  • Identify opportunities to standardize and streamline the flow of data and reports;
  • Design and develop relational databases utilizing best practices methodologies to minimize resources consumption;
  • Apply data management best practices and ensure data accuracy and completeness;
  • Collaborate with business intelligence and analytics consultants.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

Required: 

  • A university degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or other relevant discipline;
  • 3-5 years related experience;
  • Strong business focus;
  • Proficiency with SQL;
  • Experience with SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS;
  • Experience with at least one coding language e.g. JavaScript, Swift, Python, Java;
  • Experience developing mobile apps;
  • Understanding of data warehousing and data modeling;
  • Experience with Business Intelligence software e.g. Power BI, Tableau, Qlicview;
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office;

     

    Would be considered an asset: 

  • Previous experience developing and implementing mining specific business intelligence solutions;
  • Previous experience with mining fleet management systems e.g. Micromine, Wenco, Modular.

 

COMPENSATION:
