NEW GOLD CELEBRATES MINERS' DAY AND ITS 2ND ANNIVERSARY IN MEXICO
New Gold, one of the most important mining companies in Canada and its Mexican subsidiary MSX congratulates its works and all of the country's miners in the celebration of their day.
To celebrate mining is to pay tribute to civilization and the development of society. Mining is one of the most ancient human activities. Data indicates that mining goes back 43,000 years when Palaeolithic man searched for iron pigments of copper colour that we've used ever since.
If it seems a simple task, mining's selective gathering of minerals from the earth surface, it's certain that the materials obtained from this activity have been fundamental for the economy of society, as well as for the sciences, technology and the knowledge in many areas.
The history of Mexico and in particular the history of San Luis Potosi wouldn't be the same without its mineral wealth. So was founded SLP. During the colonial period of New Spain, mining was the principal activity. On March 4, 1592 was founded Cerro de San Pedro, by Mexquitic, the Spanish friar Francisco Franco and Captain Miguel Caldera. From this first settlement was born the state capital.
In 2010, the Bicententennial of Independence, MSX proudly continues the important mining tradition that nature has offered Mexico.
MSX is one of the principal producers of gold and silver in Mexico, operating with the highest environmental standards of conservation and corporate responsibility.
MSX generates 620 jobs directly and more than 1,600 indirectly, offering development opportunities to many people that live in the neighbouring communities.
The operations of the company contribute over 500 million pesos annually in tax payments, voluntary contributions and local purchases in Cerro de San Pedro municipality and at the SLP state level.
Meanwhile, MSX has a modern labour policy that offers equal opportunity to men and women, as well as persons of differing capacity, with excellent training and development opportunity. In 2010, the outlay for employee salaries and benefits exceeded 80 million pesos.
Though its Foundation, MSX has invested in important social development projects in the neighbouring communities. In recent years, projects have included the restoration of historic buildings, housing development, construction of roads and highways, renewal of power and water infrastructure, construction and operation of three health clinics and the services they provide there, student transport, computer classrooms, nurseries, as well as support to productive projects.
New Gold and MSX will continue working with determination to contribute to the development of SLP and the wellbeing of its inhabitants.
Happy Mining Day!
